As a university, Sanata Dharma has been challenged to broaden its study programs. While maintaining Teacher Training Programs in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, the university opened new faculties. Currently Sanata Dharma runs 8 faculties with 25 undergraduate study programs, 3 graduate programs, and 1 professional education program, and 3 certified courses. Since then, Sanata Dharma has experienced a lot of progress and development, such as the construction of physical facilities (buildings, laboratories, libraries, and a student center), the upgrading of administration (information system, management, and their supporting units, such as bureaus, centers, or institutions), and the improvement the academic quality, research, instruction, and social service to the community.

Universitas Islam Indonesia (Islamic University of Indonesia) is located in Yogyakarta - one of the most wonderful cities in Indonesia. The fertile plains of Yogyakarta cradle the heart of the Javanese culture, where local Hinduism is strongly bound to Islamic values. This eclecticism is beautifully encapsulated in the life of the Yogyakartanese with Keraton Yogyakarta (Sultan Palace) lying in its center. Despite their conversion to Islam, the people of Yogyakarta maintain a strong link with the Hindu past that persistently characterizes much of the culture throughout many parts of Asia. This is evident in local theatrical tradition as well as in the behavior and politeness of locals. Some of the most spectacular sights in all Asia are located in a several-kilometer-radius around Yogyakarta. Countless masterpieces of Asian architecture can be found, both natural and manmade, including the Buddhist temple of Borobudur and the Hindu temple of Prambanan.
