UNNES has been founded since 1965 in Semarang, the old city which is the capital city of Central Java Province. Having eight faculties and one post graduate program, UNNES now has more than 23.000 students who are taking Diploma degree,Undergraduate and Postgraduate.
The history of the development of Semarang State University which was known before as IKIP Semarang had been started by the existence of the various education institutions for teachers after senior high schools. Those education institutions for teachers were: Middelbaar Onderwijzer A Cursus (MO-A) dan Middelbaar Onderwijzer B Cursus (MO-B). Both of them were the education institutions which were prepared by the Dutch Colonial government and intended to prepare the teachers for junior high schools and senior high schools. MO-A dan MO-B Cursus were held in Semarang until 1950. With the Government Regulation No. 41/1950, MO-A Cursus became B-I Course and MO-B Cursus became B-II Course which were held until 1960.
